Today is day 1 of the March 2009 Great Cloth Nappy Hunt and all I can say is WOW! I have found 5 icons so far and all 5 sponsor sites I have visited have been so amazing. I don't know how I am going to fit all the cool stuff I find into just 31 days of blog posts. If you haven't registered to hunt or you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about then head on over to the Diaper Decisions website, get registered and get hunting people.
Trying to decide what my first hunt treasure of the hunt would be was so hard, however when I came across the spunky denim nappies from Flannel Fings, being the cloth nappy lover that I am, I just knew I couldn't go past them. Having spoken to Tricia via email in the past I knew these nappies were being planned and it is so great to see them finally make an appearance in time for hunting season. Tricia from Flannel Fings is very interested in the environment and sustainable living and passionate about offering clothing and accessories for children that 'don't cost the earth'.Each year tons and tons of perfectly good fabric ends up in landfill because the clothing item is no longer considered fashionable or has a small imperfection. A huge amount of precious water and energy goes into growing and manufacturing fabric. Tricia takes as much of this fabric as she can lay her crafty little hands on and makes sure we get the most out of it before it ends up in landfill. This is no small task.
Tricia spends a huge amount of time searching and preparing these recycled fabrics before the cutting and sewing can even start, however once it does start Tricia then goes on to create well made, durable products for babies and children that feature fresh, funky designs. I have been fortunate enough to try her bibs, which are usually made from a combination of recycled denim and towelling. It is by far the best bib we own. It can stand up to anything! I can only imagine how awesome a nappy would be made from the same stuff. Along with recycled wipes and gift sets Tricia has now created a truly unique MCN option.
Flannel Fings fitted denim nappies are a quick dry design made from 100% recycled denim, flannelette and towelling and featuring super soft velvet fold over elastic. This combination of natural fabrics makes them super absorbent and super fast drying so you won't be tempted to throw them in the dryer. They come in three sizes, so you will be able to find one to fit babies from almost newborn (4kg) to approximately 17kg and require the use of a cover. You also get to choose the fabric on the inside of the nappy to suit either a boy or a girl, or even gender neutral. An intensely personal, labour of love from Tricia and all for just $34.95.
Even better news for registered hunters is that Tricia is offering 15% off all products for hunters during March, which brings these spunky denim nappies down to just $29.71, so you will be saving your pocket and the environment. They are truly the greenest modern cloth nappies available. You can't go wrong! To learn more about Tricia and her awesome products head on over to Flannel Fings or check out Tricia's blog 'Little Eco Footprints'. If you are ready to buy go straight to the Flannel Fings Ozebaby store. Don't forget to put in the nappy hunt discount code, which you should have received via email after you registered in order to get your 15% off.
Until tomorrow, good hunting people.
